- You know what gels are
- You might be carrying salt packets with you
- You’ve thought about buying stock in Vaseline
- You know what Body Glide is and you’re not afraid to use it in public
- You view losing toe nails as a badge of honor
- You’re a guy and you cringe at having more chafed nipples……..
- And tape is one of your best friends to help those nipples
- You use RICE almost as much as your Body Glide and Vaseline
- You know that the afore-mentioned RICE isn’t actually edible
- You have a daily, ongoing love/hate affair with your roller, which you’ve come to view as a close friend
- The only kind of shopping that consistently intrigues you is checking out running shoes and gear
- You have a tech wear preference
- You look forward to legally getting ‘high’ every day
- You spend more on your wrist Garmin than on the one in your car
- You have multiple spread sheets, for things like mileage, speed, routes, and wear on shoes
- You’re not embarrassed to admit to using head games on yourself, and you’re more than willing to share them with others
- You know why they’re called the ‘runner’s trots’
- You feel guilty when you take a URD (unscheduled rest day)
- You dream you’re running when you’ve taken a few days off
- You may not have a PR, but you know what one is (personal record)……….. 😆
- You actually know your mile (and probably kilometer, too!) per minute speed because you’ve got a program to calculate it for you
😆
I’m sure there are plenty more. What are your favorites?
Oh geez. I’ve never had to use Body Glide or Vaseline for anything. Haven’t lost any toenails. My nipples are still nicely intact. Me and RICE are best buds, though. I haven’t used my roller in a long time, ever since I switched to the Vibrams. Shopping for gear- Yep. Getting high- OH YEAH. I use the iMapMyRun app on my iPhone for tracking. And speadsheets would scare the holy bejeezus outta me LOL. I do use gels, though. I haven’t broached the subject of mid-run hydration yet, but I can feel it coming. The longest I’ve run in one go is 10 miles. I’ve done that more than once in a day, though. I’m pretty sure I’m going to need gels or hydration or something for the half-marathon, though. I don’t have a tech wear preference yet. I just run in spandex or yoga capris and a tank top. I have been looking, though. Just seeing what’s out there and whether it’s worth the money.
I thought about adding “you have multiple fuel belts”. And, I was thinking of you last week when you accidentally wore the you-know-what………. that might help. 😉 Nah, I was fine more or less until I regularly got about 5 miles a day, and that’s when I bonded with my lubrication buddies. 😀 I absolutely did have to change my bras out, though.
I still roll every day, but it’s my hips and not my feet. I convinced hunny to try it one time his calves were knotted and he thought I was insane. Then he thought I was totally evil. And then he thought I was right. 😆
You probably won’t need a hydration belt for your HM, though, depending on where your water stations are. I used mine, but I don’t like to stop at the water stations, partly because they usually don’t have it waiting so you have to stop and wait while they pour, and then, there are never any garbage cans out there. While I see everyone else chucking the cups on the side of the road, it’s so windy here as a rule, and somehow, I don’t know, it just feels wrong to throw trash on the side of the road…………
PS- I don’t use a Garmin, either, but I know those who do!
Very true!
Did I miss any of yours? 😆
Thanks for stopping by!
I thought I was a runner, but 75% of this stuff I have no clue about!!!!! Geez….
Salt packets and rice? Sounds like dinner (minus the rice, I like mine naked)
I realize RICE is an acronym for something, but you made me hungry and I couldn’t help myself.
I KNOW I’m a runner because I can put in ten miles, drive by someone running and think, wow, wish I could be running too!
😆
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
= RICE.
And honey, you flat rock! My personal definition of a “runner” is a person putting one foot in front of the other in a motion that is not walking. I can’t say faster than walking, because have you seen some of those power walkers? 😯 Maybe they should call that something else…………..
Well, is that motion and is still propelling the person forward. I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t count if you didn’t go anywhere. 😆
I love my Garmin and yes, it most certainly did cost more than the device I have in my car 🙂 I know I should own stock in Vaseline and prefer it to Body Glide; I have a love/hate relationship with gels, I hate most of them but I keep trying them and sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised. I’ve only lost 1 toenail so far, but another one is black so I’m sure its a goner soon. It is a badge of honor ;); I could shop for shoes/running gear at any moment of any day because you just never know. . . my computer is over flowing with spreadsheets and the head games I play with myself keep me running! Love it!
Here are some of mine:
*If Ibuprofen is your recreational drug of choice.
*On long drives you gauge how far you still have to go by how many “long runs” it would be.
*Every hill you drive up (especially if its not in your neighborhood) you consider a potential “hill workout”
*There is a line in your budget for “race entries” as well as “running stuff”
*You know what an illiotibial band is and where it is located
*You know where exactly one mile is from your front door in ANY direction
OH! The long drives= how many long runs is too funny! Where I live, we count the wind as hills. 😉 I like body glide better in general because of less mess on clothes and it lasts longer, particularly for races where there’s nowhere to change and lube up right before. And YES to the running budget!
I think I may have a few more to add………..
Those are all seriously great, though. I’m still laughing! 😀
I cringed at the chafed nipple part… OUTTTTCCHHHH ! 🙂
Ya, I’ve seen pictures of some really yucky ones. {shudder}
oooh! I just hugged myself, that’s awful.
I am a remote control warrior!!!
My list includes things like footrests, potato chips, thumb stretcher…
Heh. I think you should write up a list! I am very interested to see the video of the thumb stretching……… 😉
This is just too scary for me. I used to run a lot, but now I’m going to buy a newer car instead… 🙂
New cars are good, too! 😆 What did you get?
PS- it’s never too late to lace up and head back out there………. 😉
